Funny. My memory is neither, but visual. I see a pattern on the dial pad, like an upside down T for 7-9-8-2, for example. A rotary dial is not helpful for me ;-). It's the same with source code for me: to find a method, I remember the the scrollbar positions of the file chooser and the corresponding text editor.
