Hi, I was planning to update my investigations in the near future. You have
been ahead of me :). I managed to get my application to run without
additional thread (this was not enough), also I had to remove all
Fl::lock() and Fl::unlock() methods to get rid of the leak. I am not yet
unable to tell if my version of FLTK was compiled thread safe, I used
standard ./configure (+ architecture i386).

I will get soon back to the issue and will link the leaking version of the
application with the patched version of FLTK / or some tricks you mention
and will report back my results with OSX 10.{5,6,7}.Y
