        It would take a motivated person to check them all, and then
        see if the links simply moved, or should be completely removed.

        Sometimes even dead links are still useful, since one can use them
        to search on google to see if the project moved somewhere else,
        which is usually the case.

        Folks who post these links should, once in a while, check their
        posts to see if anything has moved. Had to do this a few times myself.

        Arguably someone doing this kind of maintenance should first send
        email to the person who posted the link, and if they're unreachable,
        and the above alternatives have been researched, delete them if no
        other indicators are available.

        Or at very least, the links could be edited as 'stale'..

        I don't think we have someone doing website custodial, managing
        the links to be accurate are pretty much up to the people who posted 
them.
