I know nothing about this subject, but I assume spitting out postscript
would be the easiest thing..? This can then be trivially piped to 'lp'
or 'lpr'. (The command should surely be configurable).
IIRC, you can either send postscript drawing commands
(rectangles/circles/fonts/etc)
or send hex code bitmaps.
