I don't really know the answer but: Is level 2 the best compromise?

In my specific case, I have some old Brother laser printers that use
"BrotherScript" which is some sort of Postscript clone that Brother
cobbled together. I can only assume they didn't fancy paying Adobe the
licensing fee or something...

It seems to be OK with "older" Postscript docs, but struggles a bit with
newer ones - without checking I just assume this is a level-2 / level-3
compatibility thing...

But Mike would be better placed that most to comment on what levels of
Postscript is most widely supported by printers, I'd guess!
