I think Albrecht and Alvin had this more or less beaten down... Albrecht could maybe say what to do? Using bits of Alvin's and Albrecht's various patches I had added some tweaks to show that it fixes the issues with menu and tooltip windows under compiz, but what I'd done was pretty nasty so I would not submit it as a patch... I don't know if I will have time to dig that stuff out, clean it up, and submit it (the box I did that work on is now "stored" in the babie's room, switched off, and he's often in his cot by the time I get home, so I can't easily get at those files...)
