It is just unfortunate that the VC2005 IDE files ended up in the state they did as that caused *a lot* of confusion. Albrecht, if you make this change and update the Readme, it might be worth pointing out that the current MS IDE's can still read the old VC6 project files, just in case new users do not know that... Also (oh no, I'm on a roll now!) might be worth "deprecating" the built-in makefiles stuff (Makefile.mingw, makeinclude.mingw, config.mingw etc.) as they seem to be mostly out of date, then tweaking the readme to remove any mention of them. We could mention Msys/mingw or cygwin as credible alternatives I think.
