  I see. Actually it moves to the end of the selection.

  Also, it seems that arriving via keyboard selects all
  the text, as opposed to arriving via mouse which doesn't
  select anything.

  Is that a special case?  Based on the doc, I would have thought
  ^I would appear.  But, as I said, on my system that doesn't seem
  to work for other control characters either.
