I don't - I have a "sandbox" to play in, but it is not versioned at all.
When it gets to a state I'm happy with, I use meld (or BeyondCompare on
win32) to incorporate the changes back into the versioned tree and
commit them to svn...

Manual process, and probably error prone. Still better than letting me
play about in the main tree though.
