Thanks for your suggestion. (The cross-post was a mistake - this is my
1st visit to the newsgroup and I thought the "Development" group was for
"development *WITH* FLTK" not "development *OF* FLTK).

In any case, I had already tried redraw() and it isn't working.  For
reasons that I don't understand, your message is in the "General" group
but in my Newsreader it doesn't show up as a response to my posting in
the General group.  If you are still interested, a thread had developed
under my posting on Friday 08/16/07 at 1:37PM that adds more
information.
