You are asking about fltk-2 I think? I don't use fltk-2 much, but IIRC, in fluid2, if you draw the valuators tall and thin, they automatically get made as "vertical" rather than "horizontal" valuators - I assume that applies to progress bars too. For fltk-1.1 you use the C++ tab on the widgets properties to change the type from horizontal to vertical explicitly.
