On the (now very rare) occasions that I use cygwin, I pretty much always
use disable-cygwin. There are very few occasions I find where I need the
functionality that the cygwin dll's provide - even for code that's
ported from *nix.

I've had *really bad* experiences in the past with variant cygwin dll's
deployed on target machines (at one point we had a load of developer
machines on which various 3rd party tools had all installed "private"
copies of the cygwin dll's, and none of which were the same version...
Then one tool decided to put it's favourite version in a public place
and all hell broke loose. It's a bloody mess.)

Just Say No!

Cheers,
