+1 for removing <cr>, all our our h/cxx sources have no <cr> ; it did not seem 
to worry anyone.

FWIW, ms wordpad handles correctly unix formatted files, all ms visual editors 
too, (nt)emacs too of course, all win32 shareware notepad substitutes I tested, 
popular win32 freeware devl oriented editors (like crimson editor) too ...
