I see from your original message that you are using fltk-1.1.7 which must be at least two years old and a lot of issues have been fixed since then. You might want to try downloading 1.1.9. That will also give you the complete sources, including a test directory containing all of the examples, e.g. pixmap_browser. See the Quick Info area at the top left of http://www.fltk.org or the http://www.fltk.org/software.php Download page.
