If you really must embed the image, then you can use FLTK to do it.
Of course the png file normally remains in the source, but having created the 
embedded image using fluid, you can always cut and paste it into another source 
code file for the full application.

Create a small test program in fluid,
Create a box the size of your image.
In the properties, specify your png file in the "Images" field of the GUI tab.

Write out the code ("File->Write Code")

If you look in the resultant .cxx file you'll find the full code to define the 
image for your app.
