I'm not sure that you can, but looking at the code it looks as if doing:
edit->scrollbar_align(0);
Might actually work... Worth a try, anyway.
However: can I ask why you want to suppress them? The editor widget only
displays the scrollbars if it thinks it needs them to access the text
area (e.g. if the text is too much to fit on the display...) so if you
disable them, then there will be no way to read that text...
