Yes - it is a programming editor engine, not a "rich text" widget, so it
is fairly limited in what it can do. In particular, it doesn't handle
proportional fonts all that gracefully, and sub-/super-script, as you
say, are not supported.

Well, not really any specific version: it is only intended to be a basic
viewer, not an html widget (indeed that is why we called it a "help"
widget rather than an "html" widget...)
Though if you wanted to submit patches to add key features they might
well be accpeted.

If you need a full-spec html widget, there are quite a few
cross-platform html engines out there that can be embedded in a fltk
window if that's what you need (or you might be able to get what you
need from dillo, of course.)

Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest you try.
