What is it you are trying to do?
You can only do drawing calls from within a draw method, but any draw
calls made from within a draw method should Just Work.

Fl_Box is a GUI widget, it is not intended to be used just for drawing
rectangles on the screen, so yes, in that case drawing simple rectangles
should be quicker...

Have you played with the various examples in the test folder? Maybe
something there will clarify?
