Albrecht, let's not quibble over terminology, which at the end
of the day isn't very important anyway.  In fact I agree with
almost everything you said.  However, read your own words above.
If the motivation is to get users to do something, rather than
to provide users with something, I don't feel that they'll be
particularly likely to do it.

I think users are motivated to upgrade when a new version provides
new features, bug fixes and/or improved performance. I also think
that the 3 new features mentioned form a pretty paltry list for
a major release.  Just my opinion.
