I may be speaking out of turn, but I have the impression the OP's a Windows user, and he's making some assumptions about what the app's dir will be when clicked on - i.e. that cwd() will be set to the dir the app is stored in. This is *usually* true on Windows hosts (though not always) and a lot of simple Windows code seems to assume it.
