I'd be inclined to derive my own check_box widget, such that when it was shown it would add itself to a "master list" somewhere, and when it was hidden, it would remove itself from that "master list". The "select all" (or indeed de-select-all) widget then simply needs to walk that list, assert/de-assert each check box and trigger the callback. That's maybe a bit "brute force" but it'd be fairly simple and reliable. As an alternative, if you create a group specifically to hold your check boxes, and only your check boxes are ever put in that group, then that essentially creates the list for you, and you can walk the list of the groups children to access each check-box in turn (by walking the child() array.)
