Yes it can, but you may need to do some set-up first to make it work...

You need to check out Greg's examples pages, he has worked examples of doing 
this there, with a number of solutions shown - his specific example was the 
display of email addresses but that problem is the same as you describe.

In summary though, you have basically 3 options:

1) turn of label expansion directly (see Greg's examples for ways to do that)

- or -

2) parse the label string and double up any "@" chars to become "@@" should work

- or -

3) adjust the label string to prepend "@." at the start of every label; that 
will prevent subsequent "@" symbol interpretation for the remainder of the 
string


Depending on how you are processing your strings, one or other of these 
techniques should give the desired result.
