Yeah looks like the Nhibernate "Configuration" class isn't aware of the automapper changing the sql column in the hbm's so it never produces sql with varchar using the schema export tool.
I'll write my own extension method to work around for now. Thanks for all the help James nice work on FNH realyl enjoying working with it.
