Hello,
I've been working on the alt text for the images. We unfortunately
aren't getting any alt text in our data, but are using the image
title instead.
Hopefully that will be okay, but if not could you recommend an
alternative. One thing we were thinking would be to add a qualifier
to it such as "Thumbnail of (image title".
This should cover all museum related images with the exception of
the one used on exhibition about page and the artifact view page.
The exhibition about page provides some more information about a
specific exhibition, with the image being a representative of one of
the artifacts from the exhibition.
* I believe that alt="Image of artifact name" or alt="Thumbnail of
artifact name"is reasonable given the available data. Can this not
be done for the exhibition photo as well? Or, do you not have the
data to tell you what the image for the exhibition page is of?
The artifact view page is information about the artifact in the image.
On these pages is it necessary to have alt text on the image since
the page is largely refering to it and if so what would you like to
be there.
* It is necessary to have alt attributes describing all images. As
much as this might seem unnecessary, I do agree, it does serve an
important purpose. If I read.

Street car
some information about a street car.....
It might seem like it is redundant to have the image labelled. But,
if I hear.

Some information about a street car....
I think to myself, is that an image of a street car? What is that an
image of? Why did this application developer not care about the blind
enough to label that image? ** I might be the only one who asks the
third question (smile).
