I think a theme has to implement the FSS class name conventions, scoped to a unique theme container class name. If you want to see an example of a home-rolled theme, have a look at the Fluid Engage FSS theme. Not sure if that's ok. I guess the only risk is that images might change or move around in the future, only to break your demo. Seems fine as a bootstrap, but you might want to have your own resources before too long. I can imagine James might have some hot design ideas for the long run, too.
