Hi everyone, Earlier today I came across this interesting analysis of Amazon's menu system and how they have managed to avoid the "whack-a-mole" menu syndrome (where menus disappear because the mouse has hovered over another hoverable element).
The person who did this analysis was also kind enough to create a jQuery plugin to mimic the Amazon behaviour. I think something like this may be useful for some of our Fluid components (i.e. the volume slider on the FLOE Video Player). http://bjk5.com/post/44698559168/breaking-down-amazons-mega-dropdown Quote from the article: "As long as the cursor stays within that blue triangle the current submenu will stay open. It doesn’t matter if the cursor hovers over “Appstore for Android” momentarily — the user is probably heading toward “Learn more about Cloud Drive.”" - Jon. -- *JONATHAN HUNG* INCLUSIVE DESIGNER, IDRC**** ** ** *T:* 416 977 6000 x3951**** *F:* 416 977 9844**** *E:* [email protected]**** ** ** *OCAD UNIVERSITY***** Inclusive Design Research Centre**** 205 Richmond Street W, Toronto, ON, M5V 1V3**** ** ** www.ocadu.ca**** www.idrc.ocad.ca
