Unfortunately there is no way to detect the visual appearance of a keyboard. As you have no doubt seen from the IDRC's usability lab, there is an incredible diversity of potential alternative keyboards a user can employ, in addition to the myriad of keyboards available from different mainstream vendors. We should look to other design strategies rather than trying to depict the user's keyboard literally.
