Hey all,

I am trying to get to the point where I can have mailto links (and osx
shortcuts like cmd-i in safari) open up the Gmail SSB with a new
message window ready (or even open a new tab in the SSB with the new
message window).

So far I have installed the following:

Fluid 0.9.6 with gmail address as https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox
Gmail Notifier 1.10.4.676
Google Gears 0.5.16.0
Enabled offline mode in the Labs

Now what's broken: when I set the gmail SSB as default mail app in
google notifier and click "compose message": I get taken to the SSB;
gmail reloads, the 'new message' window is showing. What is now broken
is: a) the chat / labels area of gmail has become half width. Only way
to fix this is to go to the 'older version' of gmail and then back to
the new one. b) offline mode for gmail now no longer works: it does
not recognize that gears is installed. Only way to fix this is to zap
the Gmail SSB with prefs, and re-create it.

What happens when I use a system shortcut to generate an email (safari
cmd-i for example): Get taken to the SSB, gmail reloads, and goes to
inbox. Same things broken as above.

What I would like to get to is to have new emails open:
a) Using the gmail SSB, without reloading the whole SSB if possible.
b) Open the 'new message' window in it's own tab in the SSB, using the
new gmail message features.
c) Have the 'new message' window open in its own window with specific
dimensions (say 500px wide by 600px tall), using the new gmail message
features.

For contrast, if google notifier is set to be the default mail app, it
will open the new message window in a safari tab, but it loads the
'old version' features of gmail.

Thanks for any tips or advice.
