I had the same problem and found the answer here:

Even with those instructions, the patterns I had to add to Preferences
> Advanced Preferences were slightly different than what that post
shows:

*gmail.com*
*mail*google.com*
*google.com*mail*
*google.com*/accounts/ServiceLogin*

I'm using Fluid 0.9.6.  I'm not sure why Fluid would have this problem
with Gmail, surely the canonical site that people most want to turn
into a web app.  Is Gmail that much of a moving target?
