Concerning Jon Rose:
Violin IS his main instrument, but his various CDs
(and albums - most of which are very hard to find)
feature a nice variety of improvising musicians. I
don't know your taste, but a mix of CDs would include:
~ Violin Music in the Age of Shopping (with Otomo
Yoshihide, Shelley Hirsch, Chris Cutler, Irene
Schweizer, Rik Rue) on INTAKT
~ Fringe Benefits (1977 to 1985) [Violin Solos w/
various "guests" - sampled] on ENTROPY
~ 2 Real Violin Stories (with sampled Mozart, Mick
Jagger, et al.) on EXTRA PLATTE
~ Die Beethoven Konversationen (solo) on EXTRA PLATTE
~ Paganini's Last Testimony (solo) on KONNEX
~ Violin Music for Restaurants (with Derek Bailey,
Misha Mengelberg, Barre Philips, Joelle Leandre,
Eugene Chadbourne, Luc Houtkamp, Alvin Curran, et al)
on ReR
There are quite a few others as well as nearly a
dozen LPs, but this should get you going in the right
direction.
He also has some mixed-media type projects going
- a favorite of mine uses accelerometers attached to
moving performers that Midi-Control various
audio/video projections.
Hope this is of some help.
