It is possible that the recording was known only to a small number of individuals, and 
not to the broader audience of interested listeners, until the 90's release on Wergo 
made
it easily available.  Or smaller snippets could have been recorded off the acetate 
(and made the rounds, through Raaijamkers, Waisvisz, Eno and others), and the re-issue 
was the
first "full" recording made available.  Difficult to tell through web searching, as 
1994 (the year of the Wergo release) is pre-historical (net-wise).
