sssssssnowflake's sonic signature: 

it's not unlike that of the wail of an approaching fire engine; it increases and then 
fades away after it's passed you
      mind 
             you
the snowflake only lasts about one-ten-thousandth of a second
                                 *
hanging on the surface then 
                falling beneath the surface of water

snowflake sucks water upwards         *        *

         *          *            *          *        *
                *         *         *            *

                    engulfed 
                            the snowflake melts 

      * freeing air bubbles trapped within ice crystals

bubbles vibrate in           *             *
            and o u t                 *
                   of position sending sound waves, much like a ringing bell � at a 
super high pitcheeeeeeeeeecch
                 *                 *
                            *
                                  *       *
the plunks turn to the quiet plinks of snowflakes, but those plinks are followed by a 
scream

                         *
"if it starts snowing a lot of big flakes, we just have to shut everything off" - 
that's what the man said.
