Hi all,

In trying to make a few comments today I have come across a problem that I'm
often struck by which is how to maintain a balance between using e-mail to
quickly respond to what someone has said and thus continue a debate and
using e-mail to send an essay complete with references as a response to
continue a debate. I have to say I admire the way Ken can write such huge
mails and then tack a bibliography on the end but I don't have the time
required to write so much and yet I often want to respond with maybe the odd
reference or at least more than I do but since I'm writing at work I don't
have the books to hand and so never can. I hope it's enough that I try and
describe what I mean. When I talk about Satie's approach you really need to
see a visual example. The following book is a wonderful introduction:

A Mammal's Notebook : Collected Writings of Erik Satie (Atlas Arkhive , No
5)
by Erik Satie, Ornella Volta (Editor), Anthony Melville (Translator)
Paperback (November 1997)
Serpents Tail; ISBN: 0947757929

I have just provided the details so you can buy/search on any of the online
stores you choose. It is not out of print and amazon has it new for about
$20. It's well-illustrated and I think it's something that anyone with an
interest in Fluxus would enjoy.

Satie really is a very interesting figure and when you consider the time at
which he was creating, really revolutionary...no wonder he was always broke.

cheers,

Sol.
