Hi - I remember someone posting a question a while back about Gutai and Hi Red Center, looking for resources and this weekend I came across a lot of stuff in a book I have. (Sol - were you looking for this?) Out of Actions: Between Performance and the Object, 1949-1979 by Paul Schimmel (Editor), Russell Ferguson (Editor) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0500280509/o/qid=961427133/sr=8-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_3/104-2530087-4859134 Pretty informative book with a lot of pictures from the history of performance art. has some fluxus info as well, and good coverage on the Vienna Aktionists. It has the only informative article on Rudolph Schwartzkongler (the guy who was long rumored to have cut off his own penis as an Aktion, but didn't) I have ever read. He was always relegated to a footnote to the ego-orgies of Muehl and Nitsch (and I don't mean that in a bad way) but I found his staged Aktion photos to be beautiful and sad. Evidently he was suffering from mental illness and did things like reduce his diet to milk and bread, and suffered horrible paranoid visions. I'd like to know more, if anyone knows of a good reference. -Alex ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
