Hi Cristine and all,
>WHO CARES ABOUT THE FINAL
"PRODUCT"..................................................
CAN WE HEAR SOME JINGLES, NOW? PLEASE? PRETTY PLEASE><
I'd agree that in this case the process is likely to be more exciting than
the resulting piece of music. I'm already enjoying the fact that my program
runs every time I boot up my machine. It's like it's there to greet me...and
a nice way to interact with software.
As for hearing anything during the process I had originally thought of
having the program ftp each midi file onto the web just after it was made
but I think they would be fairly uninteresting in isolation which was why I
just posted the sheet music of the phrase which I'm using as a source for
this project. It's a simple phrase repeated which I just used for another
composition and liked so much that I thought I'd see what else could be done
with it.
One thing I enjoy is creating music in a situation where you have no idea
what the resulting piece will sound like. For this project all I know is
that the piece will be in the key of D and that's it..of course I have a
rough idea of the possible combinations of the sounds but it's still nice
and open-ended. It's also essentially a minimalist composition process, not
as minimal as LaMonte Young though more towards early Steve Reich (think
Violin Phase or Six Pianos).
I'm very glad that I got around to doing this project. And very grateful to
Patricia for organising it. I'll be interested to see how the documentation
is organised. Also I promise to try and write up my project a little better
for documentation purposes.
cheers,
Sol.
