Excellent things to think about. I'm not sure what makes things boring other than
repetition, either in the past or in real time present, that is, redundancy. But
I do know that boredom is the great creator of all new ideas, the deep well from
which they arise. Without it I'd never come up with anything.
What makes things nonboring? Not only newness, or high levels of information.
Also sensual appeal or intensity, sensual input tends to resist redundancy in my
experience, that is, it stays fresh longer. Viz techno, certain musics that are
repetitious but seldom boring. Only if it catches your attention, that is, acts
like information rather than sensation, does repetition become boring (though of
course there are limits--)
Children seem to have different boredom sensors. They often adore repetition and
find too much novelty boring. They like pattern, they find pattern interesting.
