Hello Fluxus People,
My name is Hal McGee and I have been an audio artist since 1981. I make
homemade recordings of my own avant garde electronic experimental bruitist
music. I want to trade recordings with other Fluxus audio artists.
My newest work is titled MAPS OF NOWHERE. It is 74 minutes in length and
is presented on a home-duplicated CD-R. MAPS OF NOWHERE contains four long
tracks distilled from 12 hours of field recordings made on a handheld
cassette recorder. Lots of shortwave radio tones and static; surreptitious
recordings from my work environment in a hospital; quotidian, peripheral and
trash sounds: public transportation, street and traffic noises, toys,
children, family, howling maniac dogs, mundane conversations -- all blended,
multitracked and contorted into big abstract noisy cut-up collages of
reflecting mirrored sounds. You complete the work by active listening, by
shaping the audio sensations into forms in your mind. I employed chance
process, aleatory and automatistic methods of dada and surrealism in the
making of MAPS. MAPS OF NOWHERE comes with home-printed full color inserts of
collages of found trash materials.
I will trade MAPS OF NOWHERE for cassettes and CDs of your Fluxus audio
recordings. Send your item to me and I will send MAPS to you. Please no vinyl
records, mini discs or 8 track tapes. Also, I generally prefer not to receive
rock, pop, folk or anything with a melody or rhythm. But, well, I might make
exceptions to my exceptions. Write first. If you have something else you
might want to send in trade send me an e-letter and make an offer. Some
possibilities include objects Fluxus-related -- diagrams, maps, charts,
pamphlets, brochures, booklets, sound performance instructions, sound-makers,
miniature homemade instruments, videos, mail art, zines, concrete and
abstract poetry, collages, paintings, etc. Or you can send $5, which will pay
for the cost of my materials and the postage to send MAPS to you.
