PROVO.
An exceptional and extensive archive of periodicals, pamphlets, and
ephemera published by and related to the Netherlands-based Provotarian
movement (1965-72). The collection consists of 110 items (descriptions
below). The Amsterdam Provo-movement was the spur of the '60s
counterculture in The Netherlands. Provo was a typically Dutch
'playful-anarchist group' and it's actions were related to 'Happenings'. It
found great sympathy amongst the Amsterdam population and obtained 5 seats
on the City Council. Its ideas had considerable influence on urban
planning, social housing and cultural life in general, the effects of which
can still be felt today. Provo's ideas were closely linked to the 'New
Babylon' concepts of Constant as well as those of the Situationists and the
anti-war protest movement, etc. Provo formulated several 'White Plans'
which aimed at social reform. The internationally known 'White Bicycle
Plan' helped to formulate new ideas about public transportation. Provo's
actions were the prelude to the students rebellion and the squatters
actions. Contributors include Peter Bronkhorst, Roel van Duyn, Rob Stolk,
Constant Nieuwenhuys, Bernard de Vries, Luud Schimmelpenninck, etc.

ECOLOCATION: EVELYN TREMBLE
CATALOG CONSULTATION: EDITIONS ZERACCHI
Suggested listening: "See Emily Play" by Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd).
"At the moment in which they let down the body into the earth, the scene
was such as only the dark pencil of a Domenichino, perhaps, could have done
justice to. The fierce features and wild dress of the condottieri, bending
with their torches over the grave, into which the corpse was descending,
were contrasted by the venerable figure of the monk, wrapt in long black
garments, his cowl thrown back from his pale face, on which the light
gleaming strongly showed the lines of affliction softened by piety, and the
few gray locks, which time had spared on his temples: while, beside him,
stood the softer form of Emily, who leaned for support upon Annette, her
face half averted, and shaded by a thin veil, that fell over her figure;
and her mild and beautiful countenance fixed in grief so solemn as admitted
not of tears, while she thus saw committed untimely to the earth her last
relative and friend".

A WORD ABOUT SECURITY: Although there is a widespread belief that it is
risky to email your credit card number, in truth actual instances of credit
card numbers being intercepted and being used for fraudulant purposes are
rare. While it is possible to do it, it is somewhat difficult and there
are many other much easier low-tech ways to get a person's credit card
number. Let's face it - in whatever circumstances a credit card is used,
there is a potential for fraud on both sides. But considering how often you
present your card to a stranger, how often does it happen? Even so, what
many people do for extra safety is send half the numbers in one message,
the balance in another. Others spell out the numbers rather than using
digits. Still others simply remove the spaces between the groups of numbers
on the card or irregularly space out the numbers into groups of 5, 3, 2
etc. And if you are still worried about sending your credit card number
over the web then why not just fax us!
