WAP recap!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
You are invited to submit work to the world's first and smallest (?)
wireless fluxus art gallery!
I downloaded some cool and easy to use software that has allowed me to
design and upload tiny little web-like pages that can be viewed on
WAP-enabled cell phones and other wireless devices. WAP=Wireless
Application Protocol. So I have now created a little Fluxlist Wap Art
Gallery. In the spirit of the Fluxlist Box, Sol Nte's Fluxlist i-zone
Gallery, the PK Harris' Fluxstamp projects, Kathy Forer's Fluxbase, and
Roger Stevens' happY nEw earS, I now invite you to submit work to this
gallery.
Don't have a wap-enabled cell phone? You can still visit this site & play
this game. Just download a little browser that emulates a cell-phone and
you can then view this site on your computer via the internet:
1. Download and install a free wireless device emulator at
http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-3364666-100-4025870.html (windows)
2. Visit our new Fluxlist gallery at http://www.fluxus.org/x/index.wml (if
you've installed the emulator, an image of a cell phone should pop up on
your screen and the tiny text and graphic displays should show up in the
cell phone "window"). Click through to view the current 3-page display.
I know this works, because I am actually able to view and navigate these
pages on my cell phone (wap-enabled Sanyo SCP-4000 via Sprint PCS).
Want to display your own tiny fluxus/art work/thoughts in this new gallery
for cell phone users all over the world? You can either create your own
.wbmp graphic files and send them to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will
upload them to our new wireless gallery
OR
you can create your own wireless wap site, send me the URL and I will link
to it via the Fluxlist Wap Art gallery.
To create your own .wbmp graphics or .wml-pages (with a free internet
account to host your own .wml-pages!), download and install the free
CoffeeCup Wireless Web Builder. You will not only get an easy to use
little editor, you also get a separate Wireless Image Editor which you can
use to create your own little .wbmp graphics OR to resize and convert
existing .gifs and .jpegs to the .bmp format. Down load the package at
http://www.coffeecup.com/wireless/ (windows)
Wanna play? You're invited!
Send your .wbmp work to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or create and upload your own
site and send me the URL.

Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is a set of open, global protocols for
developing applications and services that use wireless networks. The WAP
protocols are mainly based on already existing Internet protocols, but are
optimized for mobile users with wireless devices.

Hi Allen,
Nice job on the WAP gallery!
People may like to know that you don't have to install an emulator on you
machine to browse wap sites but can instead view them through
http://wapsilon.com/
which basically allows you to view WAP sites in your existing browser with a
choice of style (i.e PDA, Nokia etc.)
Actually I haven't yet had a look at the gallery on a phone. My partner has
a WAP phone but it's often difficult to connect to the WAP services. I
imagine it'd look pretty good on a PDA too but I don't have one
ofthose......
Well guess I'd better get on and think about sending something now.
cheers,
Sol.
