Yep, politics enters every venue. Location? Sure, that can contribute - but, in
my mind, that is lack of education in the arts, which is lessening as we breathe
(I hope). Museums run on personal contributions and corporate grants. Based
on past exhibits (me checking the Dallas Museum website), I'd say this is a
courageous stretch on the Curator?Director's? part. Based on my personal tenure
at a museum and the Dallas' past exhibition schedule, looks like this one wasn't
funded by grants, but a labor of love and an urge to educate, and even if it
falls on its face because of a caustic review, it will work if it is viewed and
explored. I had a meeting with a museum director (very straight community in
Montana) this weekend. He's doing great work, exhibitwise, but it takes time
and education to delve beyond the mainstream interpretation of "art" and an
agile tenacity to bring in the bucks to finance it all. I'm happy that DMA is
moving forward, it's a beginning. And hey, maybe this critic spanked enough
cheeks to guarantee an audience that will *see* anew.

Best,
PK
