While Roger's suggestion is sound and, I'm sure, based on actual
experience, I would opt for eating the lobster before the dream-sleeping
state occurs.  If it still seems necessary to invoke the lobster dream
character whilst asleep for removal of earplugs, hence audial response,
it could always be replaced with a robot of some sort ("Danger Will
Robinson!!!") since the crustacean might be slightly testy after having
been eaten and resurrected with such haste.

In the alternative, a nice Bel Paese ingested to the sounds of bazooki
music ("Zorba the Greek" is good) prior to beddy-bye and should do the
job.
