I had just received a letter from him discussing his terminal cancer and his decision not to attempt futile treatments but to keep working in the network as long as possible and including the latest versions of several ongoing collaborations - my reply had not gotten into the mail yet, but the envelope is sitting on my desk...
and this very morning he's gone... I feel terrible
