hi kathy, roger and sol, many thanks for the support in my black moment of scanner frustration. my mac guru straighted it out this morning via phone and i'm back in business. we moved the program into photoshop 6.0 so it is much easier now. i have an umax 2000U scanner and it seems to do quite well, that is when i know how to operate it. i had scanned three of the covers before it crashed so it is a great mystery of the vast world of computerland.
