georg, the way I've done this in the past is to take the signal, Fred et al. out of the mac via the speaker output and into a recording device - such as a minidisc and then feed that back in to the mac and into a wave editing program (like pro tools, sound edit etc.). In this program I'd cut it into the samples and voila.
