Gallery hours are most Friday and Saturday afternoons, noon to 6 PM, or by appointment. An opening reception will be held on Final Friday, 30 January 2004, from 7 PM to 10 PM. A second reception will be held Final Friday, 27 February 2004. Call 513.421.1397 designsmithgallery for more information.

designsmithgallery is pleased to present itâs first video installation. For this event, Craig Caudill has created an entirely new 2- hour video to be exhibited. The video features the music of Russian composer, Artemiy Artemiev, whose father Edward Artemiev is the creator of the sound track for the NBC Miniseries, âHomerâs Odysseyâ.

In a relatively short time, Craig Caudill, building on his programming skills honed at the CPC public access studios, has come a long way with his experimental video art. In addition to several award nominations, Craig was awarded the TV Eye, first place award 2001 Philo T. Farnsworth award for computer video art (non-professional). In Cincinnati, highlights of his past exhibits include the Intermedia Film Festival at the Weston Art Gallery and the recent Cincinnati Festival of the New event, Autumedia at Media Bridges. Outside of Cincinnati, Craigâs work has been exhibited in Germany and Japan.

Craig Caudill has worked to free himself from worrying about the meaning or intentions of his pieces. But instead to just relax and let the images find meaning within themselves. His goals are to allow the freedom of movements-- plus to allow images and music to work together in a loose collaboration. Craig has said that this creates a feeling within himself of spontaneity and playfulness.

designsmithgallery focuses on vintage modern furnishings from the Art Deco, Mid-Century Modern, and 1960âs/1970âs movements. An ever-changing selection of furniture, ceramics, glass, metalware, and floorcoverings, etc. is represented. Pieces are selected by the gallery owner, David G. Smith, on the basis of timeless modern aesthetics, function, and appeal. While an emphasis is placed on fine condition items by the many of the 20th centuryâs finest architects, designers, makers, and manufacturers, an element of fun and whimsy is never overlooked.
