I agree Craig - this is a great site and a good addition to the available materials out there. As to your experiences i am not surprised - doing a fair amount of work in new media related areas (web, video, etc) I see a lot of the kind of thing that you are referring to in your own experience - a lot of snobbishness towards high end tech and glitz, but on the other end a lot of vapid empty bells and whistles that really leave me uninterested and uninspired.
