Dear All & Others--
yes, the ODD-E-OH tapes do seem to elicit few--yet i wil be glad to as enjoy making them--i have collection of tape machines found in trash and one at garage sale--and just found lot of blank brand new stil sealed tapes also in trash--
with the variety of recorders, one can do crude overlayerings of sounds, music, voices--like a very low tech low fi low budget mixing board--
it might be best in getting the cheap tapes, get the shorter time length ones--as --well one cd make a series of peices--to fil up the space--but often found in making these, worked best if a sort of theme in the call--
william s, burroughs did a lot of tape experiments--some available on reissues of his early record of such on the old ESP label--
he also has a fascinating lecture that is printed in the TALKING POETICS volumes from the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa Institute--abut the tapes made by a man named Raudive--out of what were supposedly silent environments, voices emerge--with very strange phrases--Burroughs interested also in the transcritptions of gangster Dutch Schulz's last words over period of days while hovering between life and death--(used these in the book THE LAST WORDS OF DUTCH SCHULZ)--
you can get into lot of interesting and strange areas with recordings--quasi-espionage of a low scale sort--"eaves droppings"--paranoiac subterfuge worlds of the Coppola film THE CONVERSATION--documentations--environmental sounds--mixing thse in with further conversations--or adding "sound track--to "dialogue"--make a movie wihthout images--(like old radio--)--
the whole last sections of Jack Kerouc's VISIONS OF CODY--are experiemnts with tape recordings--of him and Neal Cassady on porch talking getting high listening to music on records or radio and their commenting onn these, riffing on them--these all faithfully transcribed by Kerouac for the book--then a further section which a sponatenous bop prosody./sound poetry further extending of the tape transcriptions--
or medical reports as the physician does in office--a form of diary--or a vocal blog! gawd forbid--
maybe why people dont answer the calls for these so much is just they are more time consuming than sending out a visual/visual poetry/painting etc piece in mail?--
and maybe--more people might see/read mail art pieces non-audio at shows--than hear the tapes?--
maybe one /many cd do as in Mail Art--Add and Pass--?--and when it is completed, make several cheap copies for distributions?--
