Dear Mr. Chirot,
Your letter to Fluxlist caught my eye while checking the mail during the week-long holiday of our current secretary.
It is hard for me to see our group in your description. We are secret. That's about the only common point between this description and our lives. We are not elitists. We just do what we do and we do it as a group following certain rules we set for ourselves.
Whenever anyone asks to join the group, we say that they can do exactly what we are doing for themselves. All they need to do is gather a few friends and establish the rules that suit them. The rules that suit us are to perform work by the original Fluxus artists and some new work using George Maciunas' Fluxconcert formula. We remain anonymous. We credit the artists who create the scores and take no credit for ourselves. We spend time reflecting on the work and rehearsing. We eat together after each concert or performance, and we begin or end the meal by performing an egg piece by Dick Higgins or a tea piece by Ken Friedman. (This last is a custom rather than a rule.)
Everyone can start their own think tank and performance group. It requires time, commitment, and care, nothing more.
We are even happy to see people use the Secret Fluxus name as long as they abide by the basic principles we established concerning the way we realize work as an anonymous group crediting the artists who create the scores. Anyone who is willing to be a Secret Fluxus group in this way is welcome to share our name. Everyone is free to start any other kind of group with the rules that please them.

<P>I wonder if what is bothersome re Secret Fluxus is that they present for many a sense of being Elitists, taking the floor centerstage in a goup of community/communicators who are loose knit fellow fluxlisters each working in related and unique ways.</P>
<P>The arrival of a secretive group think tank --of course it is something to be wary of!</P>
<P>In a sense it is what fluxlisters may be wanting to be away from, by sharing in fluxlist--</P>

<P>It seems anthetical to the spirit of the Eternal Network--which I think many fluxlist people for sure participate in--</P>
