>dottle
in 'geordie' (the dialect from newcastle upon tyne - englandland) the phrase

'divvint drop yeor dottle on the proggy mat'

means

'kindly desist from allowing your cigarette ash from falling onto the (proggy) mat'

a proggy mat is a mat made my 'progging' or pushing scraps of fabric through a sort of mesh to make a mat.

to prog someone is to to give them a poke.

'see that aa'd gadjie owa theor? gan an givvum a prog, make sure he's not deed'

'I say, do you see that old chap over there? Go and try and wake him, make sure he's ok'

a suitable beginners guide: (although not the best it's fairly accurate)

it's an interesting dialect as true Geordie is supposed to be as close to the 'olde english'/'anglo saxon' as you'll get.

For Fun:

Go to London with a load of Geordies  watch the panic on the faces of the locals - especially when the Geordies ask for a pint of 'scotch', which in newcastle is a beer (Scotch Ale) and in London, well it's 'scotch'!!!!
