Ah, check, so what I saw as objects coloured black (with a inability to
change this colour) were actually objects that had a different colour and
only looked black due to being completely unlit? Yes, that does make perfect
not exactly. they looked black, because the face normal was not set. when the lighting was calculated it resulted in a black colour. you can try this if you set all the normals of an object to the zero vector.
